Mr. C's "sign language" in all band classes:

  • A raised hand means you have a question or answer pertaining to the class subject matter.
  • Point to your neck = You need to use the restroom. You may leave when Mr. C hands you the appropriate colored restroom pass, sign out at rear of room.
  • Hand on your head = You need to visit the nurse/school clinic since you are feeling ill. You may leave when Mr. C hands you the appropriate colored clinic pass, sign out at rear of room. (This pass may allow one accompanying buddy if needed, please point to that helper when Mr. C hands you the pass.)
  • Point to your nose = You need to obtain tissues from one of the classroom tissue boxes. I will point toward you and you may walk to a box of tissues, return to seat when appropriate. Please dispose of used facial tissues in band room trash before you leave class.
  • Raise your mouthpiece above your head = I need repair to my instrument. Mr. C will usually not be able to help and if so will signal you to put the mouthpiece back in the instrument. At that time you are expected to finger along for the entire period without playing. Participate. If Mr. C did not address it during class, at the end of the period please show him what the problem with the instrument is to see if he can determine if it is something he can do later in the day or if it is something for a repair shop.
